Dear Abasha Members,

Abasha is now officially one year old! At this point, we’d like to extend a big thank you to our members and supporters! Abasha is based entirely on your membership subscriptions, donations and the voluntary commitment of many young people. In small working groups we solve different tasks and regularly coordinate our work in online meetings. Often we are located in different places and yet work closely together on a common document. The first year has shown – it works! The strong online-based organizational structure of Abasha makes it possible for our members who live in different places to be involved in the work of the association in a flexible way, both in terms of time and location. That said, at our last “offline” meeting in Munich we decided to offer the possibility of online participation at the annual meetings in the future. Active membership and participation in Abasha should not depend on in-person attendance at an annual meeting in our founding city Munich.

As a non-profit organization, our goal is to give start up assistance to educational and sports initiatives specifically in more difficult environments. At Abasha we see ourselves merely as helpers to already existing projects by contributing our knowledge in a close mentoring relationship, and by providing financial support to help implement the local ideas. After some years, the goal of such cooperation should aim to strengthen the skills of the local project partners, rather than have a strong dependence on Abasha.

Our first project is the Drop and Ride Program in Kabul, which is implemented by the Peace and Freestyle Organization (PFO). In 2019, we signed a cooperation agreement with PFO and have been closely mentoring the participants facing local challenges. At our on-site courses, many ideas sprung – specifically in educational courses, and women empowerment. Along with PFO, we were able to explore further and work together on courses of action. This is how the Drop and Ride Program for 2020 came into shape, and thanks to private donations and the support of “ergo: wir helfen e.V.” and Flying Metal GmbH it has already been financed. We thank you for your support!

For 2020 we plan to develop and implement a fair and transparent selection process for new projects. Get excited!

The Drop and Ride Program in 2020 is financed!

The crowdfunding for the Drop and Ride Program is finally completed! Abasha supports the Peace and Freestyle Organization (PFO), an official NGO in Afghanistan, in financing the sport and education program in Kabul. Now the PFO is ready to implement the Drop and Ride 2020 Program. THANK YOU to all our supportive members, donors and companies contributing to the Drop and Ride – Sport and Education for the Youth of Kabul crowdfunding.

After the successful crowdfunding, PFO is now ready to implement the 2020 Drop and Ride Program: The funds collected through the crowdfunding will support various activities planned for 2020. The Program is shaped around the principles of human rights, women empowerment and fighting inequalities through education and sport. Additionally, the yearly rent for a safe training area, English courses and computer training course, along with hosting educational events are also included in the 2020 Program. The aim of the 2020 Program is to provide safe training facilities for boys and girls alike and encourage young people to engage in sport and educational activities.

As 2020 has already started, have a look at the most recent event organised by Peace and Freestyle Organization (PFO) in Kabul, Afghanistan – the Freestyle Sports show! It is so exciting to see young girls and boys alike coming together for sports and being proud of what they do. Bike freestyle, roller skating and parkour fans gathered to show their passion and skills in a public event, a special occasion for Kabul.

Flying Metal was already involved in the donation delivery of a shipping container full of sports equipment in 2018. At that time the company provided ramps, bicycles and financial support and thus contributed significantly to the successful implementation of the delivery of the extensive equipment for the Drop and Ride project. Since then, high-quality bikes, protective gear and ramps have been available for the project in Kabul. You can read more about this multi-year project in this article.

Company donation: Flying Metal donates 2000 Euro for Drop and Ride!

Thanks to Flying Metal GmbH our crowdfunding is making a huge jump towards our goal! Flying Metal is based in Switzerland and offers services and products in the field of mountain biking. The company builds bikeparks, flowtrails and pumptracks, plans and organizes events and offers mobile pumptracks: www.flyingmetal.ch

Vision: Abasha

Our vision: Abasha is an association in Germany that supports young initiatives in difficult circumstances with the successful implementation of educational and sports projects worldwide.

We are building a platform on which we support young people in the realization of their ideas. Through mentoring, the provision of financial means and the acquisition of reliable sponsors, we get individual projects going and provide them with long-term support. In Abasha’s vision, the self-initiative and independence of these projects always come first.

After our founding meeting on 31.01.2019 we are now starting the implementation of all formalities.

Thus Abasha is officially founded!

We are now working in internal working groups to bring life into the association. In different topics we work out approaches and guidelines. We do this to get clear about two things. Firstly, how we want to reach the goals of the association in the long run. And secondly, how we can start with the practical work soon. Practically this means a lot of formalities, but also the continuation of the Drop and Ride project in Afghanistan. In cooperation with the young people on site, we are currently creating an educational program. This should accompany the sports program of the bicycle club. We try to learn as much as possible from more than two years of cooperation with this project. Furthermore, we want to use this knowledge effectively in future projects.
