The Campaign #OneMillionTree2030 in Kabul was officially launched on 22nd of April 2019 in Kabul, Afghanistan. The aim of the campaign is to plant One Million Trees in Afghanistan by the end of 2030. April 22nd is celebrated as the International Day of the Earth which reminds people of the importance of keeping our planet clean and protecting the environment. The Drop and Ride members celebrated the #OneMillionTree2030 movement in partnership with Youth and Students for Peace (YSPO), by planting the first trees at a school in Kabul.
All the participants attended a workshop about the importance of planting trees for the environment and discuss problems like climate change and sustainability. The workshop focused on protecting the planet and educating the next generation about the importance of preserving the natural environment. Climate action is one of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by the United Nation Member States in 2015. The goal requires urgent and ambitious collective action to reduce the drastic effects of climate change. #OneMillionTree2030 is inspiring the young generation to support and encourage environmental protection and tackle climate change by planting more trees.
Drop and Ride not only helped with planting the trees, but also offered a live freestyle show for those attending the event. Through such events, Drop and Ride is encouraging young people to engage in sports activities, whilst promoting environmental action.
The members of Drop and Ride were also involved in the organisation of a successful climate action week in Kabul from 20 to 26 September 2019. The climate actions in Afghanistan were organized by Urban Challenge, UC and Fridays for Future Oxygen as part of a major global climate action week. Drop and Ride members attended the Climate Action Week to raise awareness of global warming and pollution.
